Situated at 1 375 m above sea level, the village of Yammouneh dominates the remains of a small lake where the breeding of sacred fish is practised. The level of the lake continues to decline due to excessive consumption of neighbouring villages. Many cafés and restaurants offer dishes at reasonable prices. Trout are caught in front of the customers and grilled immediately. Not far away are the foundations of a Roman temple of Phoenician origin - there are only two retaining walls in limestone blocks - built in honour of Venus-Astarté. Indeed, Phoenician legend tells us that, in these places, Astarté, seeking to escape Typhoon, turned into fish. A little above springs a source, the source of the forty, Nebba el-Arbaïn, which makes this place a charming place and an ideal starting point for hiking. The Yammouneh region, which forms a small valley surrounded by mountains, is of great beauty for nature lovers. The site has been classified as a natural, scientific and cultural reserve since 1998. Thus, from Yammouneh, hikers will be able to embark on an excursion to Chlifa, which will lead them to a Roman tower. On the way, you will also find vestiges of the Roman path - built by the Emperor Domitien - which connected Yammouneh to Aqoura, a village in the Mount-Lebanon region.
