Situation. The archeological site of Scupi is located in the territory of the municipality of Zlokuclu Ani (Злокуќани), 1,600 inhabitants (56% of Slavo-Macedonians, 33% of Roma), belonging to the municipality of Karpoš (60,000.), which is itself integrated into the city of Skopje. The ancient city is located 4.7 km northwest of the Skopje center by Boulevard Ilinden along the Gradski Park, then turning right on Boulevard 8-mi Septemvri crossing the Vardar. Next, the Skupi road (towards Bardovci) is to be taken right away and a road path along an old car with an old Yugo as a benchmark (parking after the Evro Set, count 15 min without traffic).Description. The Illyrian city of Scupi was founded in the IVe S.B.C. between the Vardar and Zaïtchev Rid Hill ("Rabbit Hill") by the Dardanians. Despite its discovery in 1925 and numerous excavation campaigns since, the site remains a closed site most of the time and no signs indicate the location. Colonized by the Romans at the i. ap. the city would have been constantly occupied until its total destruction by the 518 earthquake of our age. In Roman times, Scupi even became an important communication center between the Aegean, the Adriatic and the Danube region. Later, the city will be the seat of a bishop (313) and a archbishop (451). Traces of buildings of different periods have been exhumed: basilica, palaces and theater. The latter is Roman. A scene, orchestra and galleries - spaces for spectators - have been discovered. The lavishly decorated scene was on two floors. The walls of the theater have green, pink and other colors. According to the fragments and remains found, this theater looks more beautiful than the Greek theater of Stobi. To hope to enter the site, we recommend that you pass through the specialized HAEMUS guides (see Skopje Tourist Office).
