In days gone by, Dungannon was the capital of Ulster. Today, in the south of County Tyrone, this town of almost 16,000 inhabitants (the third largest in the county) stands on an ancient fortress of the O'Neills, the kings of Tir-Owen, dating back to the 16th century. Vestiges of the ancient city can still be seen, but the most glorious part, still rather well preserved, dates from the 18th century. Legend has it that, on a clear day, you can see as many as eleven counties in Ireland from Castle Hill. So get out your binoculars and start calculating... Provided, of course, that the weather's cooperating!
