The Boyne Valley is a fertile agricultural land and very rich in historical sites. The valley is crossed by the Boyne River and was already populated in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the prehistoric necropolis of Brú na Bóinne, a complex of burial chambers and passages. A prehistoric complex older... than the pyramids of Egypt! The Boyne Valley is also famous for the Battle of the Boyne Valley, during which the Protestant William of Orange had the upper hand over the Catholic James II in 1690. The Protestants of Northern Ireland still celebrate this victory today, on July 12 of each year.
