Dungloe is the most important town in the Rosses, a region where Gaelic is the dominant language. In fact, signs are no longer bilingual, and many of them are too. The charm of the strangeness is heightened by the elegance of the Gaelic characters. Dungloe is, in a way, a city on the edge, the center of the Rosses region, a little out of the way... At the beginning of August, the town comes alive with Mary from Dungloe, Ireland's2nd largest beauty pageant. Irish communities from all over the world (Ireland, USA, Australia, England...) have been sending their representatives (their Mary) to compete since 1967.
