Nine centuries old, this crossroads city, gateway to Sweden, sums up the dual face of Scania. It has known many Nordic wars during which it fell in turn into the hands of the Danes and the Swedes. The battle of Ringstorp, in 1710, definitively attributed the city to the Swedes. The history of Helsingborg is closely linked to that of its Danish twin, Helsingør. All day long, ferries run between the two cities, which have a sort of dual nationality, acquired after centuries of Danish invasion and occupation. Today, a slogan links these two cities: "Two countries - One destination". Proof of a close complicity.Today, Helsingborg is a crossroads city, due to its proximity to Denmark, but also a vacation city, with beautiful beaches and new residential areas along the waterfront.Of the castle that once dominated the city and protected this gateway to Skåne from invaders, only the Kärnan keep remains, on top of which proud flags fly and which majestically dominates the city. The main street, Drottninggatan, has a very modern House of Culture. An impressive and modern railway and shipping station controls the departure of ferries to Denmark and trains to Malmö, Gothenburg and Copenhagen. All this under the gaze of the imposing Rådhuset, inaugurated in 1897, whose neo-Gothic spires of the four turrets and the bell tower sting the sky. Helsingborg is recommended in summer, when everything comes alive and there is a vacation atmosphere from the harbor to the shopping streets.
