The name Dronningmølle means "Queen's mill". It all started with the construction of a watermill by the monks of Esrum Abbey, near the point where the stream meets the Kattegat. In 1588 it was rebuilt at the request of Frederick II of Denmark and named after his wife, Queen Sophie. At the beginning of the 20th century, the village became a popular seaside resort with some 1,500 second homes. Moreover, one comes here for this strange building very mineral and which looks like a bunker! It was designed by the sculptor Rudolph Tegner to exhibit about 250 of his sculptures, plasters and clays.
