This resort of 9,000 inhabitants at an altitude of 600 meters is one of the most popular in the country. Nicknamed the "resort of a thousand springs", it actually boasts some 1,500. Like many other resorts, it is quite concrete. But the number and variety of its springs offer a unique range of treatments. The town's emblem, Balta Dracului (Devil's Pool), located in the central park, is a small, constantly bubbling mud volcano, mixing yellow mud and groundwater and emitting carbon monoxide and sulfur. It last erupted in 1984. The area around Covasna is not lacking in interest. At Valea Zânelor, you'll find an archaeological area surrounding the remains of a Dacian city from the first centuries BC and AD. Higher up, in the beautiful mountain scenery and amidst forests, you can visit the village of Comandău and its peat bogs, a natural curiosity.
