Its name means "Valley of the vines". This former wine-growing village, founded by the Saxons, boasts a 14th-century Gothic church, fortified in the early 16th century. It is surrounded by an oval enclosure, with walls almost 7 m high, also built in the 16th century. The whole complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village itself is charming. You can visit some of the typical Saxon houses, which are open to tourists, and stroll along the paths laid out on the hills, which offer superb panoramic views. To get there, there are several daily buses from Mediaș (30 minutes).
