With its 325,000 inhabitants, Cluj-Napoca (Hungarian: Kolozsvár, German: Klausenburg) is Transylvania's major economic, cultural and academic center. Coming from Sibiu, Sighișoara or Brașov, you're struck by the very different atmosphere of Cluj. Here, the center isn't medieval, and none of the sites are particularly set in their tourist ways. Cluj attracts foreign investors, who appreciate its dynamism, academic (medicine in particular) and cultural traditions. This dynamism is immediately impressive as you stroll through the bustling city center. However, the city has much more to offer visitors than proof of its economic health. Its historical heritage is rich and varied: monumental and local churches, renowned museums, palaces, a frenetic nightlife, a colorful botanical garden... The region is also full of treasures to discover.
