This sanctuary is dedicated to the memory of Yi Yi (1536-1584, Yulgok of his pen name), Néoconfucianiste philosopher and statesman statesman of great importance. He was born near Gangneung (Ojuk-≈), but his paternal family came from that region. The Yulgokni village to which he borrowed his pen was founded by his great grandfather Yi Myeong-sin. He liked to get to the Hwaseokjeong pavilion located 8 km away, above the Imjin River, not far from Yulgokni. The sanctuary was founded after his death in 1615 and then transformed in 1649 into a private Confucian academy (seowon). Unfortunately, she was bulldozed by order of the Daewon-gun regent in 1868 when he closed most seowons. The sanctuary has been reconstructed and contains the tablets of Yulgok and 2 disciples. A ceremony and a small festival are held each year in October. On a small hill at the bottom of the park lies the tombs of Yulgok, his wife, his father and his mother. The latter, Sim Sa-imdang is one of Korea's most famous female artists. She was a painter and poet, but also paid in philosophy. A small museum displays reproductions of its works (some of the originals are in Ojuk-trachomatis). It was specialized in bucolic scenes representing insects, grapes and other plants. There is not much to see, but the park is pleasant, and we give you a good illustrated brochure on the Région region.
