A wide avenue leading to the port from which ferries depart for the island of Java. In half an hour, they cross the Bali Strait, 3 km wide and 60 m deep. The Gilimanuk bus station is 1 km from the port. The main street features currency exchange offices, restaurants and a variety of stores. The town, deserted and dusty, offers a number of hotels for an early-morning departure from the national park. Gilimanuk offers beautiful views over East Java and the impressive silhouettes of Gunung Raung and Gunung Merapi, 2 volcanoes on the island of Java. Archaeology buffs can visit the small museum behind the harbour.
