Chemnitz presents an urban planning made up of an architecture of an ex-communist city and shopping centres from the 1990s. This city was once an outlet for the rich metalliferous mountains. It is the third largest city in Saxony (200,000 inhabitants) and was almost destroyed during the Second World War.Although Chemnitz still has some historical monuments, it is above all an opportunity to get an idea of the appearance of a socialist city during the Soviet bloc.
