The old birthplace of the Brandenburg Walk is a rural area dotted with pretty small towns with two-timbered houses and Gothic and Renaissance monuments of red bricks. From Berlin to Hanover through the road of schoolchildren, many surprising steps can be taken. Tangermünde, on the Elbe, is a small pearl with its little historical town perfectly preserved, pregnant its wall, with its Monu, a picturesque small town nestled on a peninsula of a bend of Havel, is a very well preserved and picturesque medieval town, a detour and a small walk worth it. On the menu: red bricks, half-timbered houses on an idyllic river. Stendal, the largest town in the Altmark, also has beautiful relics of the past, a medieval wall with tower towers, a th-century city hotel with the statue of Roland, and several beautiful Gothic Gothic churches, including St Nicholas Cathedral. For the story, the illustrious hamlet writer, Henri Beyle, alias Stendhal, borrowed his pseudonym to the city, after being spent in the wars Napoleonic (battle of Wagram), and to pay tribute to the archaeologist (author of many discoveries about Rome) and art theorist Johann J. Winckelmann, from Stendal. The city of Salzwedel is also superb, with once again many half-timbered houses and beautiful red bricks. You can still visit the charming little town of Tangermünde… The Altmark countryside is a very authentic land of bocage, where hedges and horses reign…
