Kamloops lies at the junction of the North Thompson and Thompson Rivers and takes its name from the Shuswap term "Tk'emlúps" meaning "where the rivers meet". Its varied landscape consists of massive, colorful mountains, with quiet, powerful waters that carry convoys of logs, hundreds of lakes that are great fishing spots (one variety of trout is named after Kamloops), and a ski resort to the north (Sun Peak Resort). Kamloops is a perfect blend of nature activities and a vibrant daily life. An important agricultural center, its village spirit is attracting more and more retirees.
