Formerly known as Tod Mountain, the station is located northeast of Kamloops and dates back to 1961. It was not given its current name until 1993. In the winter, the resort is popular with skiers, although not as popular as Whistler, and in the summer, many hikers and bikers enjoy the nature trails. It is a family destination for relaxation, snow sports and mountain biking. Repeatedly considered one of the best resorts in North America, Sun Peaks Resort continues to attract more and more skiers from around the world each year.
