Located in the heart of British Columbia's Gold Country, the region is rather arid and desert-like with over 2000 hours of sunshine per year. At the turn of the last century, an entrepreneur named Charles Barnes persuaded English investors to invest their money in fertile land on the Thompson River Plateau for orchards. In 1914, some 300 farmers began farming, but a storm devastated the area and left a field in ruins. Today, as we admire the view and the traces of the plantations, we can have a thought for the shattered dreams of these adventurers. Several activities such as fishing, hiking, golf, and water sports are practiced in the area.
