Driving along the Duffey Lake Road (104 km between Pemberton and Lillooet), you can admire incredible glacial lakes and go deep into an almost desert site as you travel to the region called Cariboo. You should know that Lillooet was the second largest city in the West after San Francisco in 1863! Km 0 of the Cariboo Trail, the village was indeed the starting point of the 1861 Cariboo Gold Rush northward. Lillooet is also known for its ginseng plantations, which testify to the already ancient presence of the Chinese community. The presence and influence that can be fully appreciated during a visit to the Lillooet Museum, as well as that of the First Nations people who originated from the site.
