50 km north of Kelowna, the town of Vernon is wedged between three lakes (Okanagan, Kalamalka and Swan). The town is best known for its surroundings, although it has a history linked to the railway and the gold rush and is as important in the agricultural economy as its neighbouring towns. Continuing north of Vernon, Highway 97 West leads to a ranch - a small town - built in the 19th century by an American gold digger who turned the area into a cattle ranch (Historic O'Keefe Ranch). An informative and interesting tour that gives a timeless dimension to the area. The town is attracting more and more small entrepreneurs who are interested in settling here.
