Nestled at an altitude of 2,100 metres, Bharmaur is nicknamed the Machu Pichu of Himachal. The ancient Brahmpura is perched at the foot of the Manimahesh range, 65 km east of Chamba. It was the capital of the principality of Chamba until 920. The abundance of pastureland makes it the rendezvous of the gaddi, nomadic shepherds who lead their flocks of sheep and goats on transhumance. The town is also famous for its many ancient temples, notably those of Chaurasi, Manimahesh (6th century) and Lakshna Devi.Access: buses run to Chamba several times a day (approx. 3-hour journey). The road is winding and dangerous.
