On the road to Leh, 55 km north of Manali. The Rohtang pass opens the way to Leh and Ladakh. At an altitude of 3,978 m, the lack of oxygen can make you slightly inebriated. The road to the pass is dizzying, and the scenery is to die for. The journey should calm the spirits of the party-goers and move the most sensitive. At every turn, the driver demonstrates his dexterity. In high season, when the pass is open (May to late October), traffic is extremely heavy on this winding, narrow road. Cars, buses and queues of military trucks returning from Srinagar pass through. To reduce the number of accidents, the regional government does not skimp on preventive messages. These include " Darling I like you, but not so fast ", " Dry don't fly " and " No whisky, no risky ", which you'll understand! At an altitude of 3,100 metres, the Atal Tunnel (also known as the Rothang Tunnel) opened its doors to tourists in November 2021. At 9 km in length, it reduces the distance and travel time between Manali and Keylong on the road to the Rothang Pass and Leh. Local tourists also go there just to enjoy the snow in Keylong, with many stores along the way renting ski suits for the cold, and cafés and restaurants at the top.
