The town of Kullu itself is nothing special: it's a gateway to the valley that bears its name, the Kullu Valley. This valley is also known as the Valley of the Gods, due to the flamboyant Dussehra festival held here in October. It's the ideal place to buy the region's specialty: a warm shawl made from wool, angora or pashmina. For thrill-seekers, Kullu is the place to be for rafting down the River Beas. Many of the city's agencies offer this activity. Beware: during the monsoon season, floods and landslides are common in the region.
