This pretty town surrounded by orchards closes the Kullu valley to the north. The landscapes are grandiose; moreover, in the 1960s, the hippies were among the first to have detected its potential and made it their favorite summer resort. Nature, calm and pleasure, Manali bewitches the visitor. It is one of those places that must be earned; the road is long to get there. And when you are there, you don't want to leave. Lost in the depths of Himachal Pradesh, it welcomes as much Indian tourists as Westerners in search of authenticity and adrenaline: hashish for some, extreme sports for others. Because it is necessary to know that some tourists come here to consume charas. Cannabis grows here in the slopes like nettles in our countryside. Be careful, this practice is still illegal and you expose yourself to serious risks. But Manali is above all a paradise for nature lovers, adventure and extreme sports. The city is the starting point for many treks in the region and beyond. It is also the gateway to Ladakh: a vertiginous road will lead you (from May to September) to Leh, the capital, via the Rothang Pass.
