At the foot of the Great Caucasus, the third largest city of Kakhetia stretches on the left bank of the Alazani River. Kvareli is known for its production of the famous semi-sweet red wine kindzmaraouli. The town is not extraordinary, but it has two interesting sites. You can visit the fortified house, which has been transformed into a museum of the famous writer Ilia Tchavchavadze. It has an impressive wine cellar - or rather warehouse. Don't miss a visit to the Kindzmaraouli wine cellar. 4.5 km from Kvareli, the Karheba wine cellar is the largest in the world.
