During the occupation, Moura was called Arucci, before being renamed Al-Manijah by the Moors. Its current name comes from the last "alcadess", the princess Moura Saluquia. Coveted by the Moors and the Christians, the city passed from one to the other for nearly a century. The walk through the maze of alleys of the Mouraria is very pleasant. Moura is more lively than its neighbors, as it is made up of pedestrian streets and plazas where old people and children gather; on hot days, many come to sit on the benches of the Dr. Santiago garden. Visit the many museums, most of which are free!
