An excellent Portuguese bookstore that has multiplied throughout the country! The Chiado, founded by two Frenchmen in 1732, is undoubtedly one of the oldest in the world. This venerable house has a beautiful string of rooms covered with woodwork filled with an impressive choice of works (crafts, art, foreign languages, technology, etc.). Anything that is not in stock can be ordered on site. There is also a cafeteria on site for some time now, where you can take refuge on bad weather days.

Ler Devagar means "to read slowly". It is true that the impressive setting of this good bookstore parallel to the large space in the LX Factory (in the former Gráfica Mirandela printing house), invites you to stroll. Entire walls of books and a bicycle on the ceiling, what could be more unexpected... Here we invite you to take a break from your crazy day, sit at a cafeteria table and read a book for a coffee. The overall selection is very detailed and there are even French books, sometimes including copies of... our Petit Futé Portugal.

No big surprises: records, books, hi-fi, computers, etc., presented with the same commercial and selective sense and the attraction of the green price. You will find here a selection of books in French. Of particular note are the lively Forum spaces (in Chiado with a panoramic view of the rooftops and a small café like only here) with a rather interesting monthly programme (get the agenda!) with all those who are making the Portuguese cultural and musical news and a rather extensive ticket office for shows.

A bookshop that has existed since 1945, founded by João Rodrigues Pires, which has a multitude of stories to tell. The specialty of the house: engravings, with a room containing 400 original pieces. On three floors, a fine selection at all prices of nautical or land maps (including the Sanson series on France), engravings, lithographs, etc. A real Ali Baba's cave full of treasures to be unearthed. The little extra: in this house which is meant to be "tasteful", we even offer you the opportunity to do the framing on the spot!

Every Saturday, Anchieta Street fills up with stalls selling second-hand books and postcards. The books are old or recent and the prices vary depending on whether you are a good negotiator or not. Since the street is not huge, there are about twenty stalls. However, this is enough to make some finds, while escaping for a while from the crowd that invades the streets of Chiado on Saturday. Afterwards, all you have to do is sit on the terrace of the café A Brasileira with your book and watch life pass you by.

In the lower part of São Bento Street, among restaurants and stores, this bookstore is well established.
