On the edge of the escarpment, near Kowyns Pass, it's the starting point for the Panorama Route, which winds along the canyon of the River Blyde. Populated by around 3,500 souls who make their living from farming and logging, Graskop is now a holiday resort for wealthy South Africans, and a tourist hub at the gateway to the Blyde River Canyon. Graskop is Afrikaans for "grassy hill". From its 1,400 m height, you can enjoy the rolling landscape and the view from God's Window, from where you can see the great escarpment. The signs are frozen in time, and include a few boutiques and crêperies.
