To reach Lendas, you have to take the road from Gortyne, towards the south. It twists and turns and goes downhill before you get there. The ancient Levin (Lebena) was located after the present village on the hill to the west. Not much remains of it: the remains of a temple with two columns and a mosaic dating from the 4th century BC. The springs of Levin were reputed to be curative (stomach pains), and the Romans came to take advantage of their virtues. The springs were closed a few years ago. Not so long ago, the small fishing village that was Lendas with its small rocky beach at the level of the houses had an intimate side. It has been developed in a haphazard way to accommodate tourists and the first impression when you arrive is not very good, but eventually the relaxing atmosphere wins over. If Lendas is popular, it is mainly for its long sandy beach (Dytikos or Diskos) which is 1 km further west towards Kali Limenes. There, tourists set up their tents (nudism possible). Other small beaches are located to the east. A few taverns, kafeneia and rooms for rent are scattered around the village.
