Situated on the southern foothills of Mount Psiloritis, the mountain village of Zaros is no less famous for its fish specialties: trout farms attract gourmets. Zaros is also known for its lake and spring water, which you must have been brought to drink as it is the most common on the island. You are not far from the south coast and the sites of Phaestos and Agia Triada, while enjoying the serene freshness of the mountains and the superb panorama. From the capital, take the bus at the bus station B to Mires and then take one of the two daily buses to Zaros (Mires bus station ✆ +30 28920).
