Bánk is located southwest of Balassagyarmat, by Route 22, about ten kilometres northeast of Budapest, near Vác. Here lives a Slovak population that jealously preserves its traditions. Nearby, you can discover the white embroideries of the villages along the banks of the Galga River. In summer, on the shores of Lake Bánk, the Slovak community organizes a folklore festival ("Bánki nyár", see www.bank-falu.hu). Another youth, Jewish and Roma oriented festival is held on the shores of the lake in August: Bánkitó (www.tekerjatora.hu). The water of the lake is clear, which makes Bánk a relaxing and authentic place to enjoy in summer.
