Puerto Limón, simply called Limón, is a colorful and nonchalant city in the extreme. It is very different from other cities in Costa Rica. Here, reggae escapes from the sodas and the greeting becomes hi or all right. The descendants of the Jamaicans, who came en masse in the 19th century to work on the railroad or in the banana plantations, still speak English, but an English that is very mixed with Spanish and rather informal. On October 12, a famous carnival takes place in the streets of the city and on its beaches. It is without a doubt the event not to be missed in the region if you are there at that time.
