In 1991, during one of the most violent earthquakes in the country, the coral reefs rose about one meter on the point between Limón and Moín. This is how the reef of this beautiful beach came into being. Since then, the beach is swept by powerful swells from the northeast, ideal for surfing: the beach is the scene of an annual championship. The popular spot of Los Tumbos is located at the southern end of the beach, named after the surrounding rocks. Its merciless waves are not for beginners though! Although the beach is a landmark for surfers, swimming is not recommended.
