Named after the bridge over the nearby Derwent River, Derwent Bridge is an essential stop on the Lyell Hwy and its vast forested areas between Queenstown and the Hobard area. There are several accommodations and eateries as well as two gas stations...which is a luxury in the area. Lake Saint Clair, the source of the Derwent River and the deepest lake in Australia (up to 200 m deep), is only 5 km away. There is a Visitor Center and it is possible to take boat tours. On the eastern outskirts of the town, The Wall in the Wilderness is Derwent's major attraction.
