Thirty-five kilometers west of Hobart, New Norfolk is a historic village straddling the banks of the Derwent River. The small town owes its name to the original settlers who moved here as compensation from the Norfolk Colony, which closed in 1813. Glen Derwent, Stanton, Valleyfield and Woodbridge are among the oldest homes. Famous for growing hops, the city has preserved its heritage and attracts many visitors, many of whom come from Hobart. Stroll through its antique stores, Sunday market, flea markets and narrow streets dotted with historic buildings.
