The park lies 117 km from Hobart, between the Central Highlands and the Western Coast Range, in the heart of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. It is accessible from various points along the Lyell Highway between Queenstown and Derwent Bridge. Several hikes are possible from the Lyell Highway. Each is magnificent, and all levels are represented. The best-known (and most challenging) is the 23 km Frenchmans Cap Track, which takes 3 to 5 days to complete.
