North of Cairns is the village of Kuranda, accessible by tourist train or Skyrail. Kuranda can also be reached by road (very winding), local bus (John's bus) and trans north from downtown Cairns. The village has evolved from an alternative/hippie community to a fairly touristy, but charming village, with several local craft markets. Go up the main street to discover the oldest of the markets, full of charm (opposite to the arrival of Skyrail and the train).
