North of the village you can visit the ruins of Kefalokastro, the medieval capital of the island, which was founded by the Venetians before the Ottomans destroyed the fortress in the 1570's. It was definitively abandoned in the 17th century: today you can admire the remains of the fortifications and two small churches. From the heights of the kastro, you will have a breathtaking view of the sea and the horizon. The path that leads to Kefalokastro is not easy to find, so ask for directions before you leave (count on 1h30 of walking). Kefalokastro is also known as Kastro Orias.
