The small village of Nea Fokea was founded in 1922 by refugees from Asia Minor, and today you can visit the Byzantine tower at the end of the beach. This area was part of the sacred mountain of Mount Athos but was given as a gift to Greek refugees who had migrated from Turkey to Chalkidiki. Otherwise, Nea Fokea is mostly known today as a small tourist resort with a picturesque harbour, many pleasant and typical taverns along the seafront and cafes where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the sea. You can also go to Afitos, a beautiful village in Chalkidiki.
