Long ago, there was a bridge between the village and the monastery of Aghios Ioannis Prodomou, which allowed the inhabitants to reach the surrounding villages and the shore. One day, this bridge was washed away by a spectacular flood. The villagers consulted the wise monk Roboam to find out what they could do to protect the bridge. The monk told them the secret of the Arta bridge: the chief mason had buried his own wife in its foundations to protect it from evil spirits. The inhabitants then drew lots to determine which of the monks should be buried in the foundations of the new bridge. It was Roboam who was chosen. Realizing that he had been tricked, the monk became very angry and locked himself in his cell, where he died the following year. As for the bridge, it was swept away by a flood in 1912.
