Beware, sulphurous village! Loutra Edipsos, located in the north of the island, 119 kilometers from Halkida, has been famous since antiquity for its bubbling waters. Many great men, including Aristotle, Plutarch and Pliny, sang the praises of these therapeutic springs, believed to cure rheumatic, arthritic and gynaecological ailments. Later, icons such as Greta Garbo and Maria Callas frequented the site. Today, Loutra Edipsos is home to the hydrokinesitherapy center (5 minutes from the village), reputed to be the most modern in Greece. The sight of sulphurous waters pouring into the sea is a sight to behold!
