Another one of those pretty Messinian villages: fishermen, charming beaches and refreshing vegetation. But Pylos has something extra. It was here, in the harbour of Navarino, that the English, French and Russian fleets destroyed the Turkish-Egyptian fleet on October 20, 1827, as the commemorative stele in the central square recalls. Located at the southern end of the Gulf of Navarra, Pylos is shaped like a horseshoe, and its narrow, cobbled streets and arcades give it a lot of character.
