This village of great class, but unfortunately deserted of its inhabitants, is one of the most beautiful sites of the route. It is a strange citadel-village with 150 towers, houses and fortified buildings, all of which bear witness to the Maniote architecture. The passages between the houses form the streets of this partly abandoned village. Vathia has been restored, but in a good way, and its medieval architecture is reminiscent of Monemvassia. Then, we head for Porto Kagio (7 km) for a detour that is worth it. The road seems to fall steeply into the sea. Olive groves and boxwood vegetation add to the sumptuous landscape.
