Seventy-two kilometers east of Bodrum, ancient Mylasa, capital of the Kingdom of Caria, is a small rural town often considered a stopover to change dolmuş or buses. Various sites are interesting in the vicinity: Beçin Kalesi, Labranda and Euromos. If the city of Mylasa was flourishing in Roman times, it is nowadays punctuated by its Tuesday farmers' market. Gümüşkesen Street leads to the mausoleum of the same name meaning "silver purse" inspired by the one in Bodrum. Near the town hall, the Çöllüoğlu Hanı is one of the last caravanserais still used in Turkey. In the center, the remains of the Roman Gate, the Baltalı Kapı.
