100 km from Izmir and 20 km from Selçuk, Kuşadasi is located in a gulf, facing the Greek island of Samos which saw the birth of Pythagoras. Connected to the mainland by a strip of land, the "Birds Island" was fortified in the 14th century. In the last 20 years, this charming fishing village has become a tourist mecca with a profusion of hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and stores. Apart from the peninsula and the seaside promenade, which is very pleasant with its large palm trees and oleanders, the town is not very interesting. Fortunately, there are the long beaches, a nice harbor, the historical sites and the lively nightlife. The city suffers a lot from touts and mass tourism. Lovers of authenticity will prefer to stay in Güzelçamlı, at the entrance to the Dilek Natural Park.
