The archaeological site of Labranda is perched on a wooded hill and includes a sanctuary of Zeus. Its difficult access has preserved its romantic isolation. It is accessible only to motorized travelers, as cabs are reluctant to go there. Exit via the road to Söke, then drive to Kargıcak, and take 6 km of a bad track. The exact date of the foundation of the site is unknown. Originally dedicated to Zeus, the sanctuary continued to function after the rise of Christianity, where it became an important religious and pilgrimage center for the entire region of Caria from the5th century. The city was not deserted until the 11th century
