42 km from Kuşadası arise the ruins of a 4th century BC city in a grandiose landscape, dominated by Mount Mycale and the plain of the Meander River. The site, mysterious and bewitching, is perched on the side of the rock and hidden under the pine forest, with its temple of Athena. Priene is one of the twelve Ionian cities of the coasts of Asia Minor. Alexander endowed the city with important monuments, like the temple of Athena. Under the Roman Empire, the city continues to develop. Its decadence begins with the deposits of alluvium which block its port and move it away from the sea. The day trip can be combined with a visit to Miletus and Didymus.
