This small promontory village has a population of around 1,000. Its strategic position gave it a certain reputation in the Middle Ages, which can be seen in the establishment of two major castles. The first, Kamen Castle, was built in the 12th century and is now in ruins. The second, Kacenstajn Castle, built in the 15th century, served as Gestapo headquarters for the entire region during the Second World War. A key memorial site, it has been the site of numerous mass graves. Today, the village is thriving economically thanks to the installation of the famous Elan ski accessories brand.
