Angra is a historic port city, founded in the 16th century, 150 km southwest of Rio. For many, it is only a stopover on the way to Ilha Grande. The city and its region are only relatively charming since its industrialization. One can visit the only Brazilian nuclear power plant, Volta Redonda, and observe the oil platforms of Petrobras. However, if you cross the port and follow the coast along the Contorno road, you will understand why the place remains a top destination for Paulistas and Cariocas. The road winds along hills that flow into a clear sea.
