Sant Antoni de Portmany is the third largest town on the island (and second in terms of tourist numbers) and is located to the west of Ibiza, in the eponymous bay, and has a long history. Called Portus Magnus by the Romans, and later Portmany by the Catalans, a Byzantine necropolis was discovered here in 1906. The later presence of Arabs and then Catalans, Turks, Algerians and English privateers is proven. Modern and in full expansion, it is the most famous tourist municipality. In summer, you will hardly hear Spanish spoken: the city is becoming the stronghold of English tourists attracted by low-cost packages. Some good addresses are worth mentioning. The Passeig Maritim, which gave its name to this palm tree-lined neighborhood, is home to a large number of summertime terraces that will suit all tastes and pockets. Strollers usually walk to the Egg of Columbus, the city's emblematic traffic circle that also marks the entrance and exit. There is also a marina with a string of private boats and a shuttle service that connects Sant Antoni to the surrounding beaches. When night comes, after the famous Café del Mar sunset , the city center comes alive with concerts and handicraft exhibition stands Then, when winter comes, Sant Antony becomes quieter and lives at a much more relaxed pace.
