Right in the middle of the Gauja National Park and equidistant between Sigulda and Valmiera, this old Hanseatic town, capital of the Livonian order, is worth a visit both for its authenticity and its many museums. Cēsis will be the ideal place for a restful stop during your exploration of the park. In the country, Cēsis is generally considered the most Latvian city, and every Latvian makes it a point to regularly holiday in its region. In winter, the ski and toboggan runs are taken over by local tourists, but don't expect Alpine tours: the altitude here peaks at 200m!
